How To Use LinkedIn Endorsements
How To Use LinkedIn EndorsementsHow To Use LinkedIn EndorsementsWhat does it mean to endorse or be endorsed on LinkedIn? Is this something that matters to your LinkedIn profile? Endorsements happen to be a valuable feature to add your profile. They allow peers, colleagues, and bosses to attest to your expertise. LinkedIn Endorsements vs. Recommendations First, its important to know that endorsements are different fromLinkedIn Recommendations. A recommendation on LinkedIn is a written reference supporting you and your work. It typically involves a few sentences (or a of couple paragraphs) published on your profile. You might consider this a virtual recommendation letter for all to see. These are very valuable to your profile. Endorsements work differently than recommendations. Anyone can visit your profile, read your skills list, and hit the endorse button for the skills they know you have. Many have questioned the value of endorsements on LinkedIn because its so easy to do. Linke dIn prompts you to endorse other people and suggests that you endorse them for certain skills. Its as simple as liking a post or a page on Facebook. Technically, you dont even have to know the person that you are endorsing. That being said, you do not want to be endorsed for every skill imaginable. For example, if you helped someone look over their resume, they endorsed you for resume writing, and you dont provide resumewriting servicesprofessionally, you wouldnt want to confuse anyone into thinking that that is what you do. On a similar note, you shouldnt be too quick to endorse everyone you know for every skill. You may not actually be helping them, and you will find that those that use LinkedIn thoughtfully will not return the favor. Endorsements on Your LinkedIn Profile When someone wants to endorse you, LinkedIn will offer suggestions on what to endorse you for (blogging, for example). When they decide to endorse you, the endorsements you receive will be listed on your prof ile in a section called Skills Expertise (listed under Experience and above Education). Is it a good idea to seek endorsements for your LinkedIn profile? While it is difficult to know for koranvers just how endorsements will influence recruiters or employers that review your profile, it is safe to say three things Endorsements will never hurt your profile (unless you are being endorsed for skills you dont want publicized)A lack of endorsements might make viewers skeptical about your social media savvy as well as anyskill setsyou claim on your profile andCombined with recommendations, a large amount of endorsements will make you look like a superstar in your industry. How to Get the Right Endorsements Its important that the endorsements you get are a match for your skills and experience. The best way to set up your profile to get accurate endorsements is to start by itemizing a wide selection of critical skills and knowledge assets on your profile so you can give potential endors ers plenty of options to trigger endorsements. Make sure you cover asmany skillsareas as possible within your industry, especially if you are transitioning to a new field. LinkedIn Endorsement Examples Skills and expertise will generally fall into two categories Generaltransferable skills, such as writing, analysis, supervision, research, and problem solvingSpecialized skills unique to a particular industry, such as portfolio management, Python development tools, behavioral interviewing, job search strategies, search engine optimization, copywriting or estate planning. Try to incorporate a combination of both general and specialized skills into your list of skills open for endorsement. If you are branching out into a new field and dont yet possess many specialized skills, make sure you include as many transferable skills as possible. How to Get Endorsements One of the best ways to get endorsements on LinkedIn is to endorse others, particularly those that have had seen you use y our skills. LinkedIn members receive an email notification when endorsements are added to their profile, and this helps you get noticed. You also can send a simple private message, such as John,You might have noticed that I recently added endorsements to your profile. I am building up that component of my profile and would love to have any endorsements which you might feel comfortable adding given our past working relationship.Specifically, I am seeking endorsement for the following skills. Since I want to be a help to you, as well, please let me know if there is/are skill(s) that you would like more endorsements for.Thank youMary Expand How to Turn Off Endorsements You cant stop someone from endorsing you, but you can opt out of having your endorsements public. If you dont think that endorsements add value, you can hide them from your profile. Heres how Click on ProfileClick on Edit ProfileScroll down to Skills ExpertiseClick on the pencil iconClick on Display your endorsements and selectYes, show my endorsements, orNo, dont show my endorsements How to Turn Off Endorsement Notifications If you dont want your email cluttered with notifications about the endorsements youre getting, you can turn them off. Heres how Click on Settings(under your name on the top right side of the page)Click on Email PreferencesClick on Set the frequency of emails(under Emails)Scroll down to EndorsementsSelect No Email(you can also opt for a Daily Digest, which is a once a day email message with all the endorsements you have received listed) How to Delete and Add Skills It is ideal for you to go through your Skills Endorsements list on a regular basis. Scroll down the section on your profile and click the pencil icon on the right-hand side. Set top skills. LinkedIn allows you to select three skills as your top skills. To make a skill a top skill, click on the pin icon on the left of the skill. It will go from white to blue and move to the top your skills list. This lets people know that you want to be known for these skills above all others. Remove skills. As you scroll through your list of skills, you may notice some that you do not want on your profile. Simply click the trash can icon on the right to remove them. Reorder skills. If you want to reorder your skills, you can select the four lines icon on the right, click and drag to the spot you want it to stay. Add a skill. To add a skill, close out of the edit skills box and select the Add a New Skill on right of the Skills Endorsements section. LinkedIn will suggest some skills (based on your experience), or you may schriftart in skills that you want listed. Remember that LinkedIn allows for you to list up to 50 skills.

Stay at Home Parent Resignation Letter Example
Stay at Home Parent Resignation Letter ExampleStay at Home Parent Resignation Letter ExampleEvery job resignation requires formal bedrngnisice, even if youre leaving for a positive reason, such as becoming a stay-at-home parent, or resigning because youre pregnant. Its a good idea to let your manager know that youre resigning and to provide a letter for your employee file with the details. If you are leaving your job to stay home with your kids, you can use the vorlage below to craft your letter. Please note the letter is just an example, and youll want to tailor the specifics to fit your individual circumstances. What to Write in Your Letter Its important to stick to the format of the letter, along with the tone your communications should be first and foremost professional, polite, positive and grateful. Also keep in mind that although you should offer a brief explanation as to why you have made your decision, the bulk of your letter should not be dedicated to this reasoning. Yo u dont owe your employer an extremely long-winded description of your specific situation. This can actually work against you. Its best to keep it simple and keep the focus on your good experience in the position, your gratitude for the opportunity, and your interest in maintaining an ongoing professional relationship with your employer after your departure. That way, should you need a reference or networking assistance if or when you choose to return to work, you will be able to reach out to this former employer. Here is a template you can use for your resignation letter. Stay-at-Home Parent Resignation Letter Sample Your NameYour AddressYour City, State Zip CodeYour Phone NumberYour EmailDateNameTitleOrganizationAddressCity, State Zip CodeDear Mr./Ms. Last NameI am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from my position at XYZ.As you are aware, my wife has been at home with our daughter and her maternity leave is coming to an end next month. In order to alleviate the tran sition, I have decided to stay at home with our child while my wife returns to work.Despite the many wonderful years I have spent with XYZ, I am excited to embark on a new challenge being a stay-at-home dad. I will miss my job and the amazing people I have had the pleasure of working with throughout the years.Thank you so much for all of the opportunities and experiences you have provided me during my time with the company.I appreciate your support and understanding, and I wish everyone a successful future. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to alleviate the transition.I hope we can stay in touch and enjoy a mutually beneficial professional relationship in the future.Yours truly,Your Signature (hard copy letter)Your Typed Name Expand Additional Tips for Resigning to Become a Stay-at-Home Parent Wait until youre sure. Of course, youll give your employer at least the standard two weeks notice before your last day on the job. But dont fall into the trap of thinking mor e notice is always better. You have a responsibility to yourself and to your family, as well as to your employer, when you quit a job for any reason. You should be financially and emotionally prepared to leave the second you put in your notice, even if you plan to stay for a few weeks. Why? Because some employers will ask resigning workers to pack up their desk immediately upon giving notice. You dont want to find yourself caught unawares or short a few weeks of pay that you were counting on to meet your new expenses. Its also a good idea to wait until after your baby is born to make your decision. Every baby and every parent is different. You may think that you know what you want to do in terms of work and childcare, but until your bundle is on the outside, you wont know for sure. Make all your preparations before resigning.Get all your things in order before you speak to your boss and offer your resignation letter. Clean up your desk, remove your personal files from your computer , and line up references. Be ready to go, just in case you need to leave in a hurry. Consider all your options before making your decision. Staying at home might be the best possible decision for you and your family but its not the only option. Consider whether part-time work or a flexible schedule would meet your needs just as well as becoming a full-time stay-at-home parent. You might be surprised at your employers willingness to work with you to arrive at a better arrangement, especially if youre a long-time employee with a proven track record.

Survey Vast majority of employees say they never work up to their potential
Survey Vast majority of employees say they never work up to their potentialSurvey Vast majority of employees say they never work up to their potentialThe majority of us are walking around in our offices feeling overwhelmed and under-qualified for the work weve been hired to do, according to a new survey by tech firm Dropbox andeducational company The School of Life. Its a finding that should send alarm bells ringing to any manager placing their trust in teams to get the job done.Survey 1 in 5 employees are not working up to their potentialIn the Dropbox surveys 2,000 interviews with U.K. workers, researchers found that 68% of employees reported feeling out of depth at work. One in five employees said they felt they never worked up to their potential. More than half of employees estimated that they were not functioning their best at least one day a week. And they dont think theyre alone in this feeling. Respondents pointed fingers at their coworkers too. Respondents said that only 68% of their co-workers were good at their jobs, leaving us to wonder about the remaining 32% of colleagues implied to be incompetent. The problem of disengaged workersBut maybe its not our fault for being unproductive at our jobs. The researchers theorized that employee disengagement may be due to poor management. Often its not a lack of motivation causing this, mora often it can be a lack of clarity - give team members clear roles and responsibilities and the chances are productivity and happiness will both rise, The School of Life philosopherBrennan Jacoby said. When values are set and expectations are clear, managers are putting employees in the best environment to thrive. U.K. workers are not the only demographic feeling unsatisfied and disengaged at work. Two-thirds of Americans only see their work as just a job.Heres the reality - we spend more of our waking days working than we do doing anything else. Recognizing that the vast majority of employees are spending the activity that theyaverage 8.8 hours of their daily adult life doing on autopilot should be a call to action to employers that something is not working.Disengaged employees are the bane of every workplace - theyre almost twice as likely to quit a job and are more likely to steal from the company, negatively influence their coworkers, and miss workdays, according to a Gallup surveys. For a company to thrive, identifying and changing the minds of disengaged employees is not just an expression of goodwill - its also a sound business decision.

Ancient wisdom reveals 6 rituals that will make you happy
Ancient wisdom reveals 6 zeremoniells that will make you happyAncient wisdom reveals 6 rituals that will make you happyPeople have enormous respect for ancient wisdom. They just dont read it. Funny thing is, were more likely to live happier lives when we visit the classics section than the self-help aisle. So how do we get the skinny on what one group of brilliant dead guys - The Stoics - had to say? Well, for that, I called my friend Ryan.Ryan Holiday is the bestselling author of The Obstacle is the Way and Ego is the Enemy. His new book isThe Daily Stoic 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living. So whatcan the guys who invented the toga party teach us about living well? Lets get to it1. Events dont upset you. Beliefs doYou get dumped by someone youre totally in love with. Feel sad? God, yes. The world is going to end.Okay, saatkorn scenario, but afterwardsyou find out that rolle was actually a psychopath who killed their last three partners. Feel sad you got d umped? No, youre thrilled.Soclearly getting dumped isnt the importantfactor here. What changed? Nothing but your beliefs. If you lose your job and believe it was a lousy position and believe it wont be hard for you to get a better job, youre unfazed. If you believe it was the greatest job ever and believe youll never get another one that good - youre devastated.Emotions arent random. They follow from beliefs.Heres RyanThe Stoics are saying there are no good or bad events, theres only perception. Shakespeare encapsulated it well when he said, Nothing either good nor bad but thinking makes it so. Shakespeare and the Stoics are saying that the world around us is indifferent, it is objective. The Stoics are saying, This happened to me, is not the same as, This happened to me and thats bad. Theyre saying if you stop at the first part, you will be much more resilient and much more able to make some good out of anything that happens.Skeptical? Sound too simple? Guess what? You couldnt be mo re wrongThis part of Stoic philosophy was adapted by famed psychologist Albert Ellis to form Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - which is now the dominant method for helping people overcomeproblems ranging from depression to anxiety to anger. Most of the bad feelings you haveare caused by irrational beliefs.Next time youre feeling negative emotions, dont focus on the event that you think caused them. Ask yourself what belief you hold about that event. And then ask yourself if its rationalIf my partner dumps me, Ill never get over it.If I lose my job, my life is over.If I dont finish reading this post, the writer will hate me forever.Only the third one is true. The other two are irrational. And thats why you get anxious, angry or depressed.Revise your beliefs and you can change your feelings Even if they dump me, I can meet someone else. Its happened before and I got over it.(To learn more from Albert Ellis about how to never be frustrated again, click here.)So youre revising your beliefs to overcomesadness and anger. Awesome. But what about when youre unhappy because youre worried about the future?2. Control what you can. Ignore the restYou know the Serenity Prayer?God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.Reinhold Nieburh came up with it around 1934. The Stoics were preachingthat basic idea, oh, about 2000 years earlier. The Stoics were really big on control. But they were not control freaks at all. A key part of Stoicism is just asking yourself, Can I do anything about this?If you can, do it. If you cant then you cant. But worrying achieves nothing but stress.Heres RyanWhat the Stoics are saying is so much of what worries us are things that we have no control over. If Im doing something tomorrow and Im worried about it raining and ruining it, no amount of me stressing about it is going to change whether it rains or not. The Stoics are saying, Not only are you going to be h appier if you can make the distinction between what you can change and cant change but if you focus your energy exclusively on what you can change, youre going to be a lot more productive and effective as well.Heres a quick visual to help get the point acrossNext time youre worrying, pause and ask yourself, Do I have control over this? If you do, stop worrying and get to work.If you dont have control, worrying wont make it better. And going back to the first point, it might be a good idea to ask yourself what your belief is thats causing all this worry Yeah, its probably irrational.(To learn more lifehacks from a variety of ancient thinkers, click here.)Sosadness, anger and worrying are irrational responses andtheyre not the right way to react when things happen. So what is the right way to react to stuffthat doesnt meet your expectations?3. Accept everything. But dont be passiveThis is the one everybody has trouble with. Nobody likes the word accept. We think itmeans give up. It do esnt.Lets look at it this way whats the opposite of accept? Deny. As in denial. And nobody ever recommends denial.Albert Ellis told people theyd be much happier if they removedthe word should from their vocabulary. Should is denial. Youre saying your expectations deserve to override realityMy kids shouldnt be misbehaving (News flash they are.)Traffic shouldnt be this bad(Um, but it is.)It shouldnt be raining (Say it louder. Complaining might work this time.)Denial is irrational, and as we just learned, irrational beliefs are wherenegative emotions come from. So the first step is to accept reality. But that doesnt mean you have to be passive. You accept the rain. Its here. Denial and shoulds wont change anything but that doesnt mean you cant grab an umbrella.Heres RyanAcceptance to us means resignation but to the Stoics it meant accepting the facts as they are and then deciding what youre going to do about them. The problem is that because we have expectations about how we want things to be, we feel like acceptance is settling, when in reality we have no idea what could have happened instead. This awful thing might have saved us from something much worse. Or maybe this is going to open us up to some new amazing opportunity that we cant yet conceive. The Stoics are saying, Lets not waste any energy fighting things that are outside our control, lets accept them, lets embrace them and then lets move on and see what we can do with it.Next timethings dont go your way, dont deny reality. Accept it. Its here. Then ask if you have control over it. If you do, do something. If you dont, ask if your beliefs are rational.Thats how you go from It shouldnt be raining We cant go to the park The day is ruined to Yeah, its raining. No park today. Lets see an awesome movie.(To learn the neuroscience behind mindfulness, another ancient happiness technique, click here.)Alright, weve covered a lot of Stoic methods for beating bad feelings. That covers defense. Lets talk offense. How do you improve your life?4. Choose whose child you will beI know, I know - that doesnt make any sense at all. Hold your horses, Ill explainEverything weve talked about so far happens in your head. And, as we learned, thats where the problems usually start. But if lifes gonna get better we need to learn from other people.Youre not alone in this world. You have so much to learn from others. Role models. Mentors. And Seneca, one of the big cheeses of Stoicism, got the point across with this beautifulquote that I loveWe like to say that we dont get to choose our parents, that they were given by chance yet, we can truly choose whose children we wish to be.When I spoke to Anders Ericsson, the professor who came up with the 10,000 hours theory of expertise, he said the first step in being better at anything (and that includes life) is to find a mentor.Heres AndersThey need to talk to somebody that they really admire, a person that is doing something in a way that they would like to event ually be able to do. Have this person help you identify what it is that you might need to change in order to be able to do what that other person is doing. Interview that person about how they were able to do it, and then have that person help you identify what is it that you cant do right now and what are the steps towards reaching that desired level of performance.Next time you face a challenge, think of someone you admire.Research shows asking yourself What would _____ do? can havepowerful positive effects on your behavior.(To learn how to find the best mentor for you, click here.)Role models and mentors are great for helping you be your best. Buthow do you make sure youre actually improving? How do you know youre making progress toward being the best you?5. Morning and evening rituals are essentialPlenty of research shows that rituals can really improve your life. What type did the Stoics recommend?Morning ritualsand evening rituals. One to get you ready for the day, the other t o reflect on how things went and figure out what to improve.Heres RyanThe Stoics thoughtyou should start the day with a ritual of reminding yourself of what youre going to face. Marcus Aurelius said, Today, the people that you face will be and then he proceeds to list basically every negative trait you could possibly encounter in the course of a day. Thats not pessimistic, hes saying, Now that you know this, dont take any of it personally and try to understand why people might act this way and forgive and love them for that. The Stoics believe you start the day with a meditation of whats to come and then you should end the day reflecting on what has transpired and what can be improved. The Stoics didnt believe in perfection. They felt we were alla work-in-progress. You can always be getting better. As Seneca saidAs long as you live, keep learning how to live.(To learn the morning ritual that will keep you happy all day, click here.)Okay, weve learned a lot of ancient wisdom. Lets roun d it up and get the final tip that science agrees is one of the most powerful happiness boostersSum upHeres howancient wisdom from the Stoics canhelp yoube happierEvents Dont Upset You. Beliefs Do Only the end of the world is the end of the world.Control What You Can. Ignore The Rest Worrying never fixed anything.Accept Everything. But Dont Be Passive Nobody recommends denial. Accept. And then do something.Choose Whose Child You Will Be What would Batman do in this situation?Morning And Evening Rituals Are Essential Plan for the day, then reflect on the day.Marcus Aurelius classic book Meditationsstarts out kinda weird. He mentions all the people who he feels indebted to for having helped him. Its basically a gratitude list. The Stoics were big on gratitude. In fact, in Meditations he wroteDont set your mind on things you dont possess as if they were yours, but count the blessings you actually possess and think how much you would desire them if they werent already yours.A few thousan d years later research would catch up with himon that one.Studies show mentally subtracting cherished moments from your life makes you appreciate them more, makes you grateful and makes you happier. What if I never met my partner? What if my child was never born? Wow, I am so lucky to have them in my life. You dont need that shiny new thing in order tosmile. One of the biggest challenges in almost all industries today is achieving gender parity. Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 million construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent geschftsleben strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction C raft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentation technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in comba ting gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.

How to find motivation at your lowest pointHow to find motivation at your lowest pointWhether its achieving a target at work, losing a certain amount of weight, or saving money for your dream purchase finding motivation can be incredibly difficult at the most important times. Although many challenges come with a physical battle, conquering a lack of motivation and overcoming personal hurdles undoubtedly begins within our own minds. Our thoughts often determine whether or not we can find innerhalb motivation and having even the slightest of doubts can stop this from happening. One afternoon last week, sitting outside enjoying the glorious summer sunshine, we spoke with Ben Edwards, a self-confidence expert and relationship coach, who gave us his tips on how to find motivation even at your lowest point.Begin the day rightIf youre someone who sets 10 alarms with a 2-minute gap to help persuade you to get up, dont. Set one alarm and push yourself out of bed. This will immediately trigger y our mental ability to conquer a small barrier. Having an extra 20 minutes of time to either get ready, make food or perhaps participate in a quick exercise session will leave you feeling fresh.Another useful tip is to leave your phone across the room not on your bedside table. This encourages you to get up, move and stretch instead of rolling over and checking social media. If you can successfully tackle the first task of your day, it will inevitably put you in a good mood and motivate you to achieve further targets.Create a visionFor many, seeing the potential outcome of hard work, such as driving a dream car or being in a personal office, can spark motivation. Visual thoughts allow you to create the scenario in which you imagine yourself and no doubt about it, this will feel good. Pair this with a podcast or up-beat music playlist and youll feel like Rocky before his final fight. Its also important to think positively although this is easier to say than do, having doubts in the ba ck of your mind will impact your motivation. Challenge these head on with a more proactive attitude.Write your goals downFrom completing simple tasks such as arranging an appointment, to yearly goals of reaching a certain milestone, write down anything you wish to complete. Putting this somewhere that you often reisepass or can easily glance at will give you gentle reminders to not give up. Having a tick list also allows for a visual representation of how many tasks youve completed, giving immediate feedback. The feeling of removing something from your list can fuel ambition to conquer the next.Dream big with small actsWhen motivation is at an all-time low, reassess the situation and begin small. Doing an hourly workout five days a week or arriving to work 30 minutes early each day isnt a realistic goal early on. Instead, take small steps and constantly improve. A quick 5-10 minute workout each morning with a gradual increase as the weeks pass will be more beneficial to your mentali ty. Begin to put yourself into a routine and stick with it. Do tasks at a similar time in the day until your mind locks it down.Remember, without consistency, youll never finish start small and work your way up.Remove distractionsA big part of the battle when finding motivation is removing distractions that could disrupt your workflow. In a modern age where social media has taken over lives, its difficult to avoid checking regular updates. We all know how hard it is to put our phones away for the day, so leave it in another room when youre tackling tasks. If youre in the middle of a workout, leave it across the gym/room until you finish. If youre sitting in an office completing a large task, turn your phone upside down and put it on silent productivity levels will increase, leaving you motivated to complete the next goal. This article was originally posted on YourCoffeeBreak.co.uk.

Conference Call Etiquette in the Workplace
Conference Call Etiquette in the WorkplaceConference Call Etiquette in the WorkplaceUndoubtedly, the age of technology has made our lives and jobs easier, and its made meetings much more convenient. But whether youre a manager, employee or job candidate, you should follow this thing called conference call etiquette. You see, its easier to let your guard down during virtual conversations and assume that because the other parties arent in the same room, you can take a more relaxed approach. But thats a dangerous thought. Conference calls - audio or video - should be given the same level of thought and awareness as face-to-face meetings.See this infographic and read about our survey on conference call etiquette.Observing these rules of conference call etiquette will help you maintain a consistent level of professionalism regardless of the meeting format.Conference call etiquette rules for managers 1. Set up in advance.Dont wait until the last minute to prepare for the conference call . Make sure all the necessary equipment is in the room and properly working. Also gather all of your documents digital or physical. Its rude to start the call late because you cant find a file that you knew would be critical to the meeting. 2. Monitor the audio. If most of the participants will be together in a conference room, another part of conference-call etiquette involves making sure the microphone is ideally placed and audio is set at the proper level. This could entail having a long enough cord to move the mike to and from various areas of the conference room table. Also, be aware that talking while youre turning around, looking down or leaning over will change the volume and tone of your voice. 3. Avoid interruptions. Anyone who has the potential to barge in and interrupt your conference call should be notified of the meeting so they wont interrupt you. Just as you would do in a face-to-face meeting to avoid one of theworkplace etiquette breaches, turn off your cell phone and any other digital devices that produce disrupting sounds. 4. Unclutter the room. If youre leading a videoconference, dont let the background be a distraction. Participants dont need to see the sales goals on the whiteboard behind you, the teddybr bear from Valentines Day on your bookshelf, or the empty Chinese food container from lunch. 5. Light the room. Videoconferences also require adequate lighting. Experiment to find the right balance, and if the room is too dark, you may need to bring in a lamp or some other additional source of lighting. Also, some light sources behind you - like a window - create a shadow or halo effect. If you cant close the blinds, place a desk lamp on your right or left side to counter the backlight. 6. Be inclusive. Unless youre making a presentation, dont monopolize the conversation, and dont allow anyone else to, either. Everyone involved in the call was invited for a reason, so give them time to voice their opinions.Etiquette rules for emplo yees/job candidatesFor audio calls, employees and job candidates should follow the conference call etiquette outlined above. If your call will involve video, here are some additional tips 7. Dress to impress. Your attire should be consistent with what you would wear in a face-to-face meeting. Even if youre at home, dont shock meeting attendees with your brightly colored Hawaiian shirt. Dont wear job interview clothes that could kill your chances of getting hired. And dont assume that only the top portion of your body will be seen. More than one individual has been embarrassed to find out later that attendees could see their boxer shorts. 8. Take care with the set. Your backdrop is a part of conference call etiquette. Choose a neutral location that does not anzeige personal items. Managers or hiring managers should not be distracted by cluttered desks or dirty laundry. 9. Silence is golden. Even if the main focus is video, remember that your mike could pick up unwanted sounds, like children playing in the next room or TVs and radios playing in the background. Take the necessary steps, including muting the sound when necessary, to ensure that youre remembered for your responses and not your golden retrievers barking. 10. Mind your manners. Tapping nervously or impatiently on the desk, looking at your watch, checking email, and other types of behaviors can be heard, as well as seen, by the other conference attendees. Make it a point to remain alert and pay attention.Even when conference call attendees are not in the same room with you, todays technology can still reveal background sights and sounds. Observing the rules of conference-call etiquette can help you err on the side of caution and project a professional image.Keep reading Follow the Robert Half Blog for the latest management advice and career insights.SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER
